NAGA Florida Grappling Championship

On Saturday & Sunday, June 26 & 27, 2010, NAGA brings the world’s largest grappling tournaments back to Florida for its 10th annual NAGA Florida Grappling Championship. This tournament is open to all grappling styles, you do not need to be on a team or be a member of any organization to compete. The event will take place in the 3,000 seat FAU main gymnasium. This event is nationally RANKED!

WE HAVE EXPANDED TO A TWO DAY TOURNAMENT
Due to the large amount of competitors this NAGA tournament attracts, this event will be held over two days. All adults (both gi and no-gi) will compete on Saturday. All children and teens 17 yrs. & under (gi & no-gi) will compete on Sunday. The tremendous benefit of a 2-day event is that competitors do not have to wait numerous hours to compete.

SAMURAI SWORDS TO CHILDREN & TEEN WINNERS
NAGA will be awarding custom engraved SAMURAI SWORDS to all Children & Teen 1st place winners! Octagon medals will be awarded to all Adult divisions winners. All Adult, Kids & Teens 2nd & 3rd place winners take home octagon medals. Many adult competitors have asked to replace swords with gold medals. Adults who place 1st will have the option to obtain samurai swords at the NAGA T-shirt Booth (for a nominal fee).

6 HUGE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP TEAM AWARDS
All 6 of our top teams (Adult Gi, No-Gi & Children 17 yrs. & under) will receive a custom made CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM CUP. Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase the talent that your academy possesses.

DOUBLE THE TEEN DIVISIONS – NEW AGE GROUPS
With the large number of teenagers competing at NAGA events, we have decided to double the number of teen divisions. We will now have separate age group divisions for teens 14 & 15 year olds, and 16 & 17 year olds. We will be using the same weight classes as in the past. Children 13 years and under will also be broken down by weight and age.

NEW ADULT ABSOLUTE NO-GI DIVISIONS
Many NAGA No-gi competitors have asked us to allow them to compete in multiple skill levels in order to get more opportunities to roll the day of the competition. In order to facilitate their request we have added Novice, Beginner and Intermediate Absolute No-Gi Divisions. These No-Gi Divisions will begin once all the regular No-Gi divisions have ended so No-gi grapplers will not miss their second chance to compete. 1st through 3rd place winners take home octagon medals. The winner of the Advanced Absolute will take home a championship belt

Rickson Gracie BJJ Seminar

In honor of the one year anniversary of the passing of Grandmaster Helio Gracie the Valente Brothers will host an exclusive seminar with the undefeated and legendary fighter, Rickson Gracie for the first time ever. The third son of Helio Gracie will teach a class in Florida for the first time in fifteen years. Valente Brothers students around the world will be attending this historic event. The seminar will take place on March 27 and 28. Each session will consist of four hours, including technical training, drills, Jiu-Jitsu philosophy and a Q&A session. Students may attend one or both days. Since the announcement that Rickson would teach in Miami was made, many students from other schools all around the US and even other countries have contacted Valente Brothers to secure a spot in the seminar. Currently, we are only accepting registrations from Valente Brothers students. The deadline to register for Valente Brothers students is March 17. Students from other schools are currently being placed on a waiting list and will be selected on a first come first serve basis.

Rickson, son of Helio Gracie, was born into Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. At fifteen he started to teach the art, and by eighteen he received his black belt from his father. When he was twenty years old he was selected to represent the Gracie family in one of their most important challenge fights against the famous 230-pound Brazilian brawler Zulu. Rickson, in an amazing display of technique and mettle, defeated Zulu, who until that time had enjoyed a 140-match, undefeated record. With this victory, Rickson gained immediate national acclaim as the top fighter in the world, leaving his mark on the history of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and the Gracie challenge. Five years later Zulu requested a rematch and lost to Rickson again, in Maracanazinho before an audience of 20,000 spectators.

Rickson is a 7th Degree Black Belt Open Class Champion of the Gracie Family, whose technique is considered to be the finest expression of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in the world. His innate talent and early mastery of the art have resulted in an impeccable undefeated record in more than 400 fights.

Robson Moura and Gustavo Dantas are both 3rd Degree Black Belts under Andre Pederneiras (Nova Uniao). Robson and Gustavo have been producing World Class competitors for over 10 years. Robson Moura is considered the most technical Nova Uniao Black Belt.

American Top Team Charity Seminar

American Top Team instructor, Nicolae Cury, has been hospitalized with pneumonia and has since had been operated on three times due to complications. Nicolae does not have insurance and his bills are rapidly piling up. We will all be helping our teammate and instructor in his time of need.
